Project 2 Recap

PART 1

While variety is the combination of many aspects of art in a piece, unity is the feeling that all of these aspects work together and compliment each other. A work of art without variety feels very boring while a work of art without unity feels jumbled and makes no sense. Unity and variety can be very useful in art making because it helps make an artwork feel complete and balanced, resulting in an eye-catching and interesting piece. When images utilize variation, they are typically more interesting to look at because they have tons of things going on in the image. Being made up of multiple things, these works hold a viewers attention and entertain the viewer more than if the image had no variation.

The combination of unity and variety can elevate any medium of work, including drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and graphic design. All of these mediums can benefit from the cohesiveness that unity and variety offers and can help make these mediums feel complete. In the future, I can use unity and variety to add depth to my work and to get a clear message represented in my work.

PART 2

Why is art important?

In the modern world, people create art for many reasons. This includes enjoyment, self expression, political stances, world problems, etc. There is no set of rules in the art world which dictates artists of how they express themselves. Artists create art for the people that find value in them and who enjoy seeing a persons interpretation of something. Whether they find beauty or a new understanding in a piece of art, people continue to find enjoyment in them. Compared to other professions, artists have many liberties and freedoms when it comes to how they work and what they create. From my personal experience, this doesn’t make the creation of a work of art any easier. No matters what liberties we are given, we have to put time and effort into everything we create, utilizing out imaginations unlike any other profession in the modern world. From the artists I see in museums and galleries, I have also learned that artists create for the enjoyment of others and to spread a message. Modern artists are similar to modern activists because they use their talents to benefit the world. I don’t believe there is one specific role an artist has or one why creates art because it is up to them how they present themselves and their work.
